“An unparallelled experience that encourages players to discover both their passion for the game and their potential for greatness.”

API Rise, is a program dedicated to the development of youth lacrosse players. We see the early specialization of players, and the notion of becoming a “one sport athlete” happen earlier and earlier in today’s sporting world. As directors, we have experienced first-hand what it looks like for young athlete’s to “burn out”, due to over-scheduling, over-training and improper coaching techniques. We want to create a youth program that fosters the growth and learning of lacrosse, without the intense time and financial commitment that comes with a club program and pushes young athletes towards specialization.

We believe that the learning curve, when coached in developmentally appropriate ways and in the correct upbeat learning environment, is off the charts for these players. We aim to provide a weekly, supplemental program for girls looking to improve their skills and understanding of lacrosse. The Rise will be coached by Becky Clipp Cassilly (Maryland ’07) and Karissa Taylor (Maryland ’10), two energetic and experienced coaches who understand the nuances of youth coaching. While club traditionally has a full fall, spring and summer tournament schedule, the Rise program will only feature 2 play days a year. This program can almost be thought of as “club-lite”, encouraging players to gradually increase their focus and commitment, without demanding too much too soon. Practices and play days will be fun and engaging to keep these players wanting to come back for more!

The Rise program will be open to players in 3rd and 4th grade, and each player will receive an official API Practice Pack (reversible jersey, tee and shorts). There will not be tryouts for the Rise program, but it will be capped at a capacity of 40 players each year. Practice will begin September 17, 2014 and will be Wednesdays 5-6pm at API in the fall and summer.SIGN UP HERE
